Incorporating global longevity research into Latitude One design

Latitude One’s masterplan draws from global research into longevity hotspots known as Blue Zones. These are regions with the greatest number of active people aged over 100. From Japan, Italy, Greece, Costa Rica and California, there are nine common threads which Ingenia has incorporated into this over 55s community to create an environment for residents to thrive in their retirement.

Studies reveal we spend 90 percent of our time in the same places, and where we live, work, learn and play strongly influence how easy or how difficult it is to make healthy choices. The attitude behind Latitude One is to make it easier to get up and move, eat healthily, make new friends, find a reason for being – and live longer, better and healthier lives.

Development Manager Rob Carr explains; ‘Our vision is to create a community where people can enjoy their lifestyle when they are retired – that means providing a quality, environmentally-friendly home that allows people to downsize without too much maintenance, and great community spaces that help foster new friendships. We want residents to have a safe base that allows them to travel when they want, and provide services as they age’.

‘We’ve been tweaking the community centre design and adding facilities, bringing together input from our market research, our own experience of what works, and recommendations from architects and builders. It’s going to be an excellent outcome.’
